Below is a list of upcoming events for both our Coffee Lab & Enactus. The Coffee Lab is located in Larrance Academic Center which is located at 309 E. School St. in Naperville, IL.

September:

9/17: Naper Settlement Farmers Market in Naperville, IL | 3-7 PM | Free | Open to the public

9/20: Visions of Coffee Screening 1 - "Memories of Coffee"  | 6-7 PM | Larrance Academic Center - Heininger Auditorium | Free | Open to the public

Join us for the first of four installments of the documentary, Visions of Coffee. Installments are meant to stand alone.  If you can attend only one, we are confident you will enjoy the experience and learn something new about coffee.

Memories of Coffee: The history of coffee in the lives of the farmers, in the community of San Lucas and in Guatemala.  Farmers remember transitions from wage work on plantations to livelihoods as independent coffee farmers. Some of the stories involve the farmer's own path to independence, others recount the struggles of earlier generations.

October:

Working in Coffee: How contemporary farmers work to leverage an improved livelihood through the limited opportunities provided by specialty coffee.  Farmers’ strategies address material factors, but also involve the way farmers conceptualize relationships among people and between people and the natural world.

Pandemic: San Lucas weathered the COVID-19 pandemic better than most Guatemalan communities.  How the community managed this involved both material strategies and distinctively Highland Maya cultural framing.
